The older villages of Halkidiki have kept the traditional aspect: narrow streets, small squares with stone fountains in their centres and houses which are two or three-storied, with tiled roofs and have a kind of enclosed veranda (called hayati), and a projecting upper storey (called sahnisi).
The house usually heats thanks to a brick fireplace with a cylindrical stone or clay chimney decorated on the top.

The traditional houses were built with clay and stone as well as chestnut, oak and beech trees wood.
The interior decoration consists on multicoloured woven wall-hangings and patchwork or homemade rugs on the floor. The walls are painted in bright colours such as green, blue, yellow or pink.
Outside, the walls are usually painted in grey, blue, white, or ochre.
