About the contest:
The theme of every contest is of course "Greece and the Greek Islands".
The pictures must be uploaded from Greeka's members' area.
Do not send us pictures by mail.
Why are we organizing an annual photos contest?
Just for fun! We personally own thousands of pictures from many locations in Greece and we think that it can be also very interesting for future visitors to Greece to see some members' pictures in order to take their decision about which place to visit in summer.
Who can participate to the contest?
Everybody can, it is free. All you need is to register as a Greeka member. Registration is free and you can register here.
We believe that photography is meant to capture a moment, convey a feeling, or tell a story and that it is erroneous to believe that in order for a photo to be effective or artistic, it must have formal composition, ideal lighting or, most importantly, be taken by a professional.
So, do not hesitate uploading your own points of view!
Can a professional participate to the contest?
We normaly don't take into account photos taken by professionals. We define a professional as anyone who profits from their photography. But professionals can still upload their pictures in order to share them with others. There are cases we accept into the contest pictures taken by professionals when our judges consider that their pictures could have been taken also by a non-professional.
What kind of pictures can be uploaded?
All kind of pictures can be uploaded. There is no distinction in categories, such as landscapes, people, architecture, black and white, etc. We won't accept photo compositions (patchwork) made with photo editors. But you can edit your pictures (levels, saturation, etc...)
How are the results decided?
We have people who check all pictures uploaded in a year and select the top 50 or 100 of them. Then, the voting is made by members. Not all members can participate to the voting process. Only active members can vote. We define the "activity" of members differently every year. This is because we have to prevent some members from creating multiple accounts in order to vote for their own pictures.

- All photos entered will be evaluated by a panel of judges. All judges will discuss about the pictures and select the top 50 or 100 photos that strike them most for whatever reason. Then, the members of Greeka.com are asked to choose the winning pictures. There won't be any professionals in the jury in order to give equal chances to everybody. Professionals might be too academic in their judgements.
- There are no limited submissions. You can upload as many photos as you wish.
- Each member is only eligible for a single award.
- The photos must have been taken ONLY by you.
- Do not watermark or place any other distinguishing mark (i.e. name, copyright) on the image.
- We won't accept photos from professionals. We define a professional as anyone who profits from their photography.
- Photos thought to be outside of the above criteria may be removed from the contest without the participant being notified.
- Last minute rules and restrictions might come up without prior notice if we think it is necessary.
