Greece yachting winds can be divided in two regions: the Aegean Sea and the Ionian Sea .
The Winds of the Aegean Sea , during the summer season, are called “Meltemi” and are present from May to September. They become particularly strong during July and August and their average duration is from 2 to 4 days.
The directions of the Meltemi vary depending on the region. The winds come from the NE in the North Aegean , from the North in Central Aegean and from the NW in the South Aegean .
The intensity of the Meltemi also depends on the region. For example, one of the strongest winds can be found in the Cycladic islands of Naxos and Paros , which attract every summer thousands of windsurfers and kite surfers.
The Ionian Sea Winds usually blow from the NW, during the summer season, and are called “Maistros”
Many races are welcomed in the Greek Seas. The many races
organised by the 134 sailing clubs operating in the country
are supervises by the Hellenic
