The best area to practice windsurfing is the regions of the Aegean Sea which are blew by a summer wind coming from the North, the Meltemi. The Meltemi winds are present from the months of May to September and their forces are particularly strong during the months of July and August. The intensity of the Meltemi varies depending of the region. One of the strongest winds can be found in the Cycladic islands of Naxos and Paros and those areas attract thousands of windsurfers every year.
The Ionian Sea winds usually blow during summer season and are called "Maistros" and are blowing from NW. The Ionian Sea is less interesting but some areas like Lefkada, due to a thermal wind, are also offering perfect conditions for windsurfing and attract thousands of windsurfers every year.
