Our experience exceeded our expectations
Category: Greece Customized Holidays
I said that I would reply to your request for a critique, so here it is. In general the experience was wonderful, exceeding our expectations in almost every way. The accommodations were uniformly clean, and well placed; the proprietors and staff in every one of the hotels both friendly and very helpful. Even the weather was accommodating, though I guess I can't give you credit in that department. Taxi drivers were always on time and always waiting for us at any port we visited. Our stay in Evia turned out to be the highlight of the entire trip as Stella and Vesicles, our hosts at Aevaov Studios in Istiea turned out to be the very best people it was our good fortune to meet. Our stay with them was a wonderful experience in part because of the beautiful setting of the place, the abundant wildlife, the peacefulness which comes w/ a place well off the beaten tourist path, but mostly because our hosts not only helped my wife rediscover the family of her grandfather, but acted as translators throughout the several encounters we had with family members who spoke no English. The experience was well beyond what we could have ever hoped for, and it might not have been so were it not for your choice of where we stayed. Thank you so much for the trouble you went to to find such wonderful hosts. The only downside to our Greek adventures was a misprinted ferry ticket from Paros to Athens, which I was able to change at the very last moment, and our very stressful return to Athens in our rental car. In future I would encourage you to make arrangements for automobile rentals well outside of Athens for those of us who do not read Greek. Even if most of the road signs might have Roman subtitles, in many instances, the signs are posted on buildings or missing altogether. I am used to traffic in big cities, but navigating in Athens is another story. We did make it back to the rental site (a place even the taxi driver had trouble in finding) but our experience would have been ever so much less stressful had you made our accomodations for renting the vehicle out of town. I've certainly relearned this lesson as it is one I have always followed, even here in the USA........My last stay in Boston was a very comfortable one, partly because I always took the subway outside of town to rent our car. I'm very sorry that I wasn't more explicit in my directions to you in this regard. Anyway, our hour and one half harrowing experience of being lost in the traffic of Athens makes for a memorable story, but one we would rather have omitted. In conclusion, thank you so much for all of the efforts you made for us to have an almost perfect trip. The friendliness of the Greek people and the beauty of your country will never be forgotten.
