Greece : help in planning my holidays please : Greek Islands and Greece Forums

we are 2 adults and we are planning to spend our holidays in 2/3 Cyclades islands. As we have never visited them we would like to stay about 1 week in Sifnos and the rest (10 days about) in Milos. Arrival 16/17 August and departure 3/4 September.

As it is always very difficult to plan the trip with ferries (we are from Italy and hopefully will arrive in Patras at h. 11.30), is there anybody who can suggest us what is better to do to avoid a night in our car in Piraeus Port - like we did a couple of years ago... Crying or Very sad

?

We have seen that there is a ferry leaving from Piraeus at about h. 16.30 for Sifnos/Milos so we are not sure to arrive in time ... according to you, is it better to plan an "alternative" island where to stay for a couple of days and reach Sifnos/Milos after? If yes, which island?

Another question: how is the port of Milos? This because 3 years ago we experienced Naxos port and it was not funny!!! Because of the wind and of big sea waves, the ferries were not able to berth so we lost our ferry to go back to Italy! And Sifnos port?

Any suggestion is really welcome.

it does happen that the ferries cant go but it is not too often and basically s**t happens why did you spend the night in your car at the port??

I would like to answer you .... ehhhhh!!!! But, you know.... may be our son (that is 23 years old) can have such a dream!

We are 2 "regularly-26-years-married-people" (we are 49 years old) so... you can image what we were doing in Athens port at 2 o'clock in the night without a hotel (or something similar) to spend the night Shocked

That's all!

So, may be I am like your mummy, but, please, if you have any info to give me, you are very very very very welcome, otherwise...

you spoke of the problem about the high winds what i say is that when it happens there is nothing you can do about it. you said you have never been to the cycledes before but you also say you were in naxos which is in the cycledes.. you said you spent the night in your car i assumed maybe you had a big problem so i asked what it was. thinking you needed advice but as you have shown you have no idea what advice you really want. but the only advice i will give you so you dont have to spend the night in your car is GET A ROOM

Buongiorno ragazzi....sono luca da milano,da anni vado a Milos,e devo dire che il problema delle coincidenze con i traghetti da Patrasso (arrivate li vero?) a Pireo sono sempre stati un problema...l'ideale sarebbe arrivare in primissima mattinata a Patra,fino a due anni fà c'era un traghetto da Ancona che arrivava presto e partiva il primo pomeriggio del giorno prima.

Qui potrete vedere quali e quando sono le partenze dei vari traghetti veloci e non da Pireo.
Dando uno sguardo al tabellone partenze il 16 agosto non ci sono navi al pomeriggio... anch'io con mia moglie arrivando in aereo dobbiamo pernottare una notte a Pireo e partire la mattina dopo,anche se a fine Giugno quando vado io ci sono navi anche alle 11,00

Qui forse questo traghetto che va a Rodi da Pireo fà il caso vostro però c'e solo il Lunedi e Venerdi

Altra questione il porto di Milos...
è situato nel golfo ultraprotetto a meno che non ci siano tifoni in atto
L'unico problema potrebbe presentarsi per il mare grosso fuori che rallenterebbe i traghetti..
Il consiglio è di avere sempre 3,4 ore di buono...
