| May I suggest the Pelion peninsula? Beautiful and largely undiscovered by British holiday-makers. For sure there are some areas that are overtly 'touristy' but there are plenty that aren't. |

Never been to the Pelion region but I am fascinated by it. Heard so many thinks about it and the vegetation.
And because I am in Skopelos every year I really feel I should visit. But where do I start? |

Pelion.... I love this area. Incredible beaches contrasted by the big mountains and the traditional villages. Incredible vegetation too. I really felt in love with this place. It was 2 years ago. I must confess that I am dreaming of having a house there.
The bad thing and good thing is that it is not easely accessible. The good thing is that it is still beautiful and have not attracted the packages tourism companies and the bad thing is that it is really difficult to get there.
From Athens there are Ktel (buses) that goes to Volos (the main town next to Pelion) and from there, depending from where you going, by bus again or by renting a car. The distance are big so no scooters there.
The other solution to reach Volos is to go to Skiathos island (many charter flights or by Thessaloniki, the second capital of Greece) and then by boat (1h30-2 hours if I remember well) to go to Volos.
Hope that you will go there! (And ssssshhhhtttt... never talk about this area, it's tabou! ) |
