Kalavryta, Peloponisse

An amazing adventure is taking the folicuar train from Diakofto to Kalavryta. It goes through tunnels and along Vouraikos Gorge. Driving ofcourse is faster from Diakofto but you miss being in that unspoilt environment.
Kalavryta offers restaurants with great homemade food. I took my husband there for fresh trout years ago...not sure if there is fresh trout there anymore.
Agia Lavra and Mega Spilion are monastaries with such great history...especially the holocaust of 1943. We visited the cemetary with crosses marking the burials of families that perished during this attack.
The village of Kalavryta is out of the way but worth spending a day in. Polpular with skiiers in the winter but just as beautiful the rest of the seasons.
