Hi Juhas
The best things on Kos depend on what you like to do on holiday, when are you going and where you are staying. Kos is an island for all kinds of holidays, depending on whether you like busy or quiet sandy beaches, archaeology, history, nightlife, food, boat trips etc. The people on Kos are very nice, we have always found them warm and friendly if you take the time with them. We always hire a car when we are there so that we can get to the quieter places, but the local buses are also very good and fairly inexpensive. Most people who go there really like it and very many of them, like my family who also visit other parts of Greece return year after year.

Dear Marg

Thank you for your reply. It seems that you are really hooked on Kos Smile.
We will be there two weeks and we would like to see many things including archelogy, countryside and at least one boat trip.

We will stay at Kos city and I suppose that we will be on the beaches near Kos town most of the time. Those beahes are crowded of course. Trip to the nice, quiet beach would be nice too.

Nightlife is out of question. We are traveling with kids.

We have been in several Greek islands before and we all are Greece lovers.

Juhas

Hi again Juhas

The beach in Kos Town can be crowded. Many people hire bicycles to explore further as the coast road is quite flat but that depends on how healthy you are. You can catch a bus or taxi to Tigaki, Marmari, Mastichari and Kefalos where there are some really good beaches but you would need a car for some of the other much quieter places as they are a long way downhill from the main road.

Kos Town has an old castle where you pay to enter but there are some other sites in the town where you can just wander around without paying. There is a little road train that goes from the town to the Asclepion site which is really interesting.

You can take boat trips from the harbour (our favourite is 'Archangel Michael' as the captain is lovely and very experienced). Other trips are to the volcanic island of Nissyros, to Kalymnos and to Bodrum in Turkey.

Places I personally would not go are Paradise Beach and Kardamena, both too touristy and tacky for me.

Have a look at the website for theokritos travel who are in Tigaki which can give you some more general information and history.

Hope this helps but if you want more info please let me know.

Marg
