Everytime I read something about Greece, I read about Mykonos and Santorini.
Is Mykonos one of the best islands in Greece?
I saw pictures of Santorini and I understand that it attracts so many people but viewing the pictures of Mykonos, I wondered if its not as some other island of the Cyclades and just attracting people for its cosmopolitan nature. |

I absolutely don't think so. I've been on several Greek Islands and much of them are more and more beautiful as Mykonos. That's my personal opinion.
But Mykonos town is very nice and Greek |

Yes, it's a hard question to answer. Each of the islands has its own qualities so it's difficult to compare. When people think of the Greek islands, they usually have images in their heads of Mykonos or Santorini. But there's so much variety: Santorini has the cliffs, sunsets and volcanic beaches, Mykonos has the cute towns and windmills, great nightlife; Rhodes has more vegetation; Crete has mountains and its unique culture; and there are tons of other and smaller islands each with their own character and points.
Mykonos is certainly 'one of the best' but 'best' is a personal opinion. Everyone looks for qualities to satisfy their own interests. Myself, I'm more interested in local culture, so I'm attracted to smaller islands that aren't as commercially developed. |

We have just returned from Santorini, Naxos, Paros and Mykonos and I have to say, Mykonos was very dissapointing. We found the town dirty and the shop and restaurant people very rude and very expensive. As a Greek born Australian I was very embarassed in front of my English wife and Australian friends. Santorini was very spectacular and Naxos and Paros authentic and very Greek. In all those Islands we were treated very well and the food and service was great and reasonably priced.
I would not rush back to Mykonos but Santorini and Naxos were lovely. |
