I've been hearing this story for at least the last 6 years. It may be true but not sure if it would be a good thing for the island as it would definitely increase tourism and spoil the atmosphere. Many people go to Kalymnos because it is quiet. We are going to Kos in September and will probably visit Kalymnos so maybe we will find out then.

It's true this has been talked about for at least 20 years. I understand however when flights do start, they will not be direct from Athens. They will call at one island, then another, then another then.........

I am visiting Kalymnos from August 2nd so I will try and find out some further information.

Kalymnos airport opened officially a couple of weeks ago. Five flights a week to Athens, although only three flights will be direct. Check the Olympic Airways web site for details. It was said at the opening, that Charter flights could start next year.

Thanks for the update. I wonder if Olympic will even by flying next year, they've been trying to find a buyer for about 2 years now with no luck.

when I lived in kalymnos all the locals told me the runway was the wrong way for the winds. The runway and buildings have been there for ages, I hope they never open it, go to Kos and get the ferry over. Kalymnos is special because package tour operators dont go there in the masses. I worked for MYTravel and had just enough customers to keep me busy but not enough to spoil the atmosphere of th nearest to old school greece you can get to nowadays

I have the same opinion than you.
Greece has to make an effort to protect its tourism and to keep a quality one.
