Greek dance performances in Athens

For anyone looking for an interesting evening in Athens - I recommend attending a performance of the Dora Stratou Greek Dance Theatre. The theatre is open-air, and set amid the pine-covered Philopappou Hill, so the setting is a relaxing oasis in the centre of a very busy city. The Dora Stratou Society has been operating since the 1950s and is a government sponsored non-profit organziation. They have over 2500 costume pieces in their collection, many are originals.

Performances are daily at 21:30 (Sundays are 20:15). The theatre is opposite the Acropolis (you'll see it on most maps) on Philopappou Hill and you buy tickets at the gate. Finding the theatre can be challenging, on foot is the best way. Walk from the Plaka district following the paved way up and around the Acropolis. Continue towards the Loumbardiaris chapel and follow the signs. Or you can walk up from the Thission area. Again, just ask if you're having trouble.

There are live musicians, beautiful costumes, and traditional folkdances are presented from selected regions and villages in Greece. Highly recommended, and it will give you a taste of traditional Greece.

Great theatre and great location! The Philopappou Hill is the "Central Park" of Athens :D You forget that you are in the center of a huge and busy town. Good recommendation o_xenos!
