My girlfriend and I are going to Kos for 3 weeks of summer holidays! Can anyone advice us about whether to go?
We are looking for quieter areas with traditional villages and things like that. We want to avoid the popular tourist resorts.

Hi there:an idea for you:I stayed at the Oceanis Beach Resort and it was great, and very cheap as well.It is about 10 minutes taxi ride outside of the main town and once there you need go nowhere else if you just want to relax. The complex has shops, restaurants, watersports, massage,a nightclub even and everynight there is entertainment.
If you are interested let me know and I will give you the details. Cool

Hi, kefalos is a quieter resort you have some nice hotels and apartments their are loud bars but we also have quieter bars with some good company also many good restaurants. At the top of the hill you have kefalos village itself which is a proper greek village as we all live their all year round. hope you find your ideal holiday.

Take the twenty five minute ferry to nearby Kalymnos and you will not go anywhere else during your holiday.

I agree with Mike-if you want to get away from tourists...go to Kalymnos. It's only a short ferry trip from Mastahari port, Kos. If you want to get even more away from tourists go to Telendos-another 5 minute boat trip from Kalymnos!

There's so many places to stay on Kalymnos you can just take your pick and very cheap too. I recommend Fotini Studios and Themis but there's loads more.

Good luck!

I have to agree with the comments about Kefalos - we've been twice, and it seems much quieter than the other resorts. We also hired a car from Manolis, and drove over the hills to other small coves - although whatever you do, don't drive too far down toward Camel beach, it is very scary. I also recommend the hot springs at Embros Thermae, past Kos town. We drove through the countryside to get there, past goats and beehives, and the views were amazing.
We found Paradise/Bubble beach a bit overrated. It was fine first thing in the morning, but then vast numbers arrived on boats from Kardamena, and turned it into an 18-30's nightmare.

Yes, when it comes to Kos you need to know where the best places are if you want to avoid the younger tourists. Kardamena is over populated with British Tourists of the younger generation. The Thermes (hot springs) can also be extrememly busy as well but we went there at about 6am and there was no one there. It was great. Tikagi beach is what I believe to be probably the best beach in Kos. If you travel into Tikagi from the main road, when you get into tigaki turn left at the square, travel another 500m and right a the T-intersection and you are there. There are no sunbeds and is not over populated with tourists. The water is also warmer than Kefalos and has no speed crafts there what so ever.
Zia is a tradional Village of kos with beautiful views and fantastic sunsets due to Zia being located on the way up Thikios montain. Also there, they have traditional restuarants where you can enjoy a meal and view one of the great sunsets.

Hello!

i'm trying to sort out the best place for me to spend sat-sun-mon in kos beginning of september, in between a working week in samos and my flight back in athens.

I am looking for some good nightlife, people in their 20ies, and if possible outside partying (say, on a cool beach!) as opposed to closed clubs. Nice beaches for the days. I'd like to avoid those british teens i've been hearing of Wink

any suggestion? (or... should I stay in samos?)

thanks!!

Hi stefano76,

Ok,,,to start of with i am pretty sure that there are no beach parties of sort but in kos town there are 2 night clubs that are actually out doors. They are side by side and are situated on the KOS town main beach. (as soon as you walk out of the clubs your on the beach.)

Beaches to go to during the day,

1. Paradise Beach (which also has all hired water sports, jet skis etc) probably the most popular.
2. Tigaki beach, if you head to the far left of the beach you will be getting away from all the sun bed hires and its not as populated.
3. kefalos beach, icy cold water there but has got the most cyrstal clear water on the island and if i remember rightly its a pebble beach.

I am like you, staying away from the teenage Pom's, then dont go to Kardamena.

Let me know if you want any more info as my parents are there right now and I would be able to get all the latest info. I will get them to give me the name of the night clubs too.

Hi Vasilli!

thanks a lot for your prompt answer - that's great!

since indeed you really seem knowleadgeable Wink i'll add a few more questions... let me know if you can help, if not don't worry!

From your suggestions I guess I would be staying in Kos town itself.

1) any accoumodation hint (i understand you don't need one!)
2) any idea if beginning of september is still a good period for partying, or it's time to just calmly enjoy the beaches?
3) have you ever been to samos => is it worth visiting Kos a couple of days if i'm in samos, or should I take that time to better visit that island and party over there?
4) any hint on boats transportation ? sounds like my only option from Samos is on saturday morning. I wonder if there are other boat services not listed on this website: http://paleologos.forth-crs.gr ... If ever that only transportation is canceled, my trip to kos would be screwed!

thanks again,
hope i will be of some help for you once!

stefano
