Nisyros, Tilos, Halki

by cristibolo » Mon Dec 19, 2011 11:53 am

Hi to everybody!

Planning my summer trip in Greece, the destinations will be probably Nisyros, Tilos and Halki. Any suggestion about accomodations, restaurants, sightseeing, beaches, ecc., are welcome!
In order to book the rooms (the trip will be in August...), has anyone an idea of how frequent are the links between Tilos and Halki, and in which days of the week?

Thank you very much for any contribution, and merry Christmas to everybody!

Hello,
Good choice of islands!
As for transport, I know that the ferry company Dodekanisos Seaways connects all islands of Dodecanese with daily schedules.

Hi Christina,

As mentioned above for transport look up the Dodecanisos Seaways:

http://www.12ne.gr/en/

There are also ordinary ferries and you may find excursion options in peak season.

Here is to give you an idea of Nissyros:

Tilos

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tilos

Halki

You will obviously be aware that all those three islands are small and tiny, but you will still find something unique and interesting sights to explore.

I haven't visited those myself for more than 15 years now, and will advice you to look up the links given above for up to date information. Also note that you are going in the very top peak season, and being small islands booking accomodation beforehand is adviced.

Hi Christina,

I have visited Nisyros and Tilos approx 5 years ago. Nisyros is my favorite of the two, Tilos was very origin but also with the negative aspect of this (dirty beaches because nobody cleans them and are open to north wind side etc). One night the electricity was cut off for a reason and we could not see our nose but we could see hundreds of stars... and by the way i was the first person in Tilos history that used the bank ec card system because the first bank (maybe still the only one as we speak) on the island opened the days that we were there. So maybe you see my face in the documentary of the bank opening, as the first person celebrating electronic cash withdraws.... :-) If the ec machine is not working then it will be difficult... so for Tilos you should get cash with you (as said stand of five years ago). But try this link, these guys used to run an office that supported tourists with all they needed (info, rooms, cash etc) http://www.tilostravel.co.uk/
In Nisyros accomodation is hard to find i can recall there was only one hotel where luckily we found a room. plain but fine. If there are rooms to let etc these are not shown as usual (could not see any rooms for rent signs) in the capital, Connection from Tilos was at that stage 2ice a week, from Nisyros i think it was daily. Both of the islands are really worth a visit, i am planning to go again at least to Nisyros ... hope you enjoy it.

Hi Cristina,

You are planning to travel during the busiest time of the year, August. I have a car rental company in Nisyros and was born there so I know most of the hotel owners too...if you need help with reservations, which I suggest you do sooner rather than later, just let me know I'd be happy to help. Here is my website for you to check out...

Mandrake is located above the town of the ancient Acropolis Nisiros Paleokastro 2600 years old.The remains are kiklops walls made of huge blocks of carved volcanic stone, and columns. You must visit the volcano.During a visit to the volcano, you must stop in the beautiful village of Nikia. Its market is a mosaic hoklakia. From Niki very nice view of the crater.Near the village stands the deserted city emporios that clings to the edge of the crater.East of the Mandrake is a pretty village with good taverns Paloi and dark beaches of volcanic sand. Two kilometers west found abandoned Spa.Meltemi wind blowing very strong in high season,at least as I read.Beach west of the village of Pali are often full of debris. The main attractions are the 14th century kastro Castle of the Knights St. John built in 1325 high on a steep cliff wall. And monasteri Moni Panagias Spilianis is located in kastro bild around year 1600.Pleasure boats offer transportation to the island and Agios Antonios giali, both are white sandy beaches. The island is known for the ancient millstones.Commonly known as nisiros stones. Now living from the mines of the float, which are on an island north Giali.Should be as interesting island with good and bad sites.

Halki what could be written about him.Population of 280 people.Successfully used to gather sponges until the early 20 th century, divers went to live in Florida.Once it was a very fertile island until sea water reached the ground water.Drinking water traveling by tankers .Very little arable land so products imported from Rhodes. The only town and village in Halki is Nimporio. The main attraction is the church of Agios Nikolaos,i think I've heard that name somewhere, or just seems to me hmm. This is a good major to have a very elegant bell tower in the form of wedding cakes,i think it is similar to that in Rhodes more accurate in Lindos.Eye painted above the main door of the church drives away evil spirits. In the courtyard is a beautiful mosaic shows the bird and the tree of life.Port is more to Italian style with town hall and post office and a beautiful stone clock tower.Over the port is kind of abandoned windmills.Near a quiet and peaceful beach suitable for children Pontamos.approximately one hour walk from Nimporio get to the abandoned capital nakdanje Horio.High on the cliff stands Castle crusade worth a visit. The clear weather is expected to see it all the way to Crete.also to see the church Panagija, Stavros and monastery Moni Agiu Joanu Prodromu.Good luck, lots of nice pictures and a nice holiday.ΞΊΞ±ΞΉ ΞΞ½Ξ± Ρυτυχισμένο Ξ½ΞΞΏ έτος ΡπιθυμΡί Ξ½Ξ± σας Marko
