I would like to enquire if the whole island is indeed wired and if internet access is as good as it seems in all the news about the island. I'm visiting shortly and want to know if I would be able to keep in touch with my office easily and speedily.

I don't know about Patmos.
I am located in a small village of Naxos Island and have a 5MB download capacity.
The best would be to call the OTE provider of Patmos and ask them, or the hotel where you will be staying.
