My girlfriend has been offered a tourism job in Crete. So we're moving down there in a matter of weeks. There are a few things that we need to have sorted first, though.

We need to rent a house, obviously, but there are a few criteria that we basically can't get away from.

Firstly, I need the internet to work. If I don't have proper internet, I don't have an income, plain and simple. So I need to have a decent DSL connection, basically. And when I say decent I don't mean like super high speeds or anything, I just mean something that I can Skype with that's not going to clap out every two seconds.

I don't know much about the telecom situation down there, I'm guessing it's not exactly cutting edge, though then again I'm Irish and find it hard to imagine that Crete could be any worse than in Ireland.

As if this isn't potentially problematic enough, I also need to address a second issue - namely, the fact that we've got a dog. Not a huge dog, actually a small enough and very quiet, placid dog, a house dog really, but a dog none the less. And as such will require a garden to do its doggy business and a landlord who's not the sort to throw a hissy fit over us having a dog in the house.

Basically what I'm looking for is some advice, some information, some prices for rent and internet and an overview of how likely it is that we're going to find a dog-friendly house with DSL and how much it's going to cost us.

You can have a 12 MB with less than 20 Euro per month with Otenet (www.otenet.gr)
Contracts are for 6 months and installation time vary depending of the area you will move in. I rent a house in Naxos and it took me about a month to get my connection.
