We are planning to visit Crete for 4 nights in the month of July next year. I know it is not a very long time, but we want to visit at least!
We want to be close to sights, beaches, attractions, but we also want to be able to explore traditional Crete. What is the best part or town of Crete to stay in? I have heard Chania is great, but your opinions and suggestions would be helpful! Thank-you |

| Chania has an ENORMOUS amount of character and atmosphere. Beaches to the east in Souda Bay are pretty good – Almerida especially. Chania is a good couple of hours drive from Heraklion. Check flights in to Chania. The west of Crete is best, there are great beaches at Falassarna on the west coast (about 1 hour from Chania) and at Paleochora south-west coast (about on and a half hours). Both journeys could take longer if you slow down a lot to view the scenes, and stop for a coffee in villages on the way! |
