New Island for next year?

by bear » Mon Aug 28, 2006 3:19 pm

Looking for a destination for next year....any help please would be greatly appreciated.

We've been to Corfu , Parga, Paxos , Anti Paxos, Kefalonia, Ithaca, Cyprus, Skiathos, Crete and Samos.

We want an Island roughly the size of Skiathos...certainly nowhere near the size of Cyprus anyway. We want small rocky inlets for snorkelling, not your long sandy beaches.
Nightlife.....not looking for nightclubs as such in the main town but a few lively bars amongst quieter ones....a mixture. Skiathos town was about the right sort of atmosphere mix we are looking at.

Ferries wouldn't be a problem so via another Island airport or from Piraeous would be fine.

Thankyou.

I see not any island of the Cyclades on your list.

Maybe you should check for some islands there

I am in love with Naxos but I am more intrested in windsurfing than snorkelling so I couldn't tell if the island is appropriate for that.
The west part is full of sandy beaches except for some part where, younger, I enjoyed much fishing with arpon. This place is between mikri vigla and Sahara beach. There are also rocky place in Pyrgaki.
The North and est part is very rocky.

I was talking about the Cyclades but you should also check the Sporades. Very rocky areas there with many pebbled beaches

Yes...we've done Skiathos and Skopelos with Alonissos are certainly lined up as possibly next year, or perhaps the year after. What's Skopelos town like on a night? Would it have enough to satisfy a 17 year old would you say or is it too quiet?

Hi Bear,

I was 26 when I went to Skopelos and must say that the town is really quiet! There is no much to do there for a 17 years old. There are many many cafe where you can have ice creams (and coktails?), some restaurants but nothing else. The town is lovely but no lively.

I love that island but it is try that something could be done to attract younger populations.

Many thanks Alexis. That completely answers my questions about Skopelos for next year.....definitely one to go to without the kids. Really looking forward to that holiday though because looking at Agh Ioannis I can see a snorkellers paradise.

On with the research...looking at Lefkada at the moment but open to any Island. Wont be booking until around march so loads of research time left.

Thanks for your help.

My kids (girls, 14 and 16) really like Aegina, especially Aghia Marina. they like being able to have day trips over to Athens to do the sights and take in the flea market and shopping, while having a beach holiday on a Greek Island, at a resort that has just the right amount of restaurants and small bars. You can do a bit of snorkelling around the beach edges, and there is even a diving school in the resort if you fancy a bit of scuba. It is really easy to book a holiday indepently there, too.

We tried Spetses as well this year, but they weren't keen, feeling it was a bit too quiet.

Thanks. I'll have a look. Also just discovered a possible at Halkidiki so I've certainly got my work cut out over the winter. :D
