Bus transportation to Lindos

We will be in Rhodes for one day with a cruise. Would you recommend staying in Rhodes town or can we take public transportation to Lindos and do both in one day?

The town of Rhodes is one of the most interesting, impressive and beautiful towns of Greece. Personaly I would stay all day there.
