Holidays in Greece

by Linked » Thu Jul 21, 2005 8:31 pm

I am dreaming of going in Greece but I was told that the cost of life there is getting higher and higher.
When would be the most ideal to save on money, and maybe not be extremely crowded?
Thanks for your help!

September is one of the best times to visit Greece and the Greek islands. The weather is perfect and the prices for accommodation are lower. Concerning the cost of life, it is true that is getting higher and higher as in all the Europeans country?

times to go

by gonzocbr » Sat Jul 30, 2005 12:48 pm

I have to agree with Alexis, we went to Kefallonia last year in September and the weather was fantastic and it was virtually empty of people. I also agree that things have got more expensive. We went to Rhodes when it was still all the local currencies and it was so cheap for food etc, but this time was definately more expensive. But ever since the Euro, everywhere in Europe has got more pricey. But having said that, eating out etc, is still a lot cheaper than Britain. So just go for it, you won't regret it.

I think that while prices are unfortunately much higher now with the Euro, this year they may not be as crazy as they were during the year of the Olympics. Greece was not so busy last year because I think that so many people were scared away due to the high cost of accommodation, etc. My hope is that things might be more reasonable this year. Any comments?

Cost of living in Greece

by Marya » Mon Aug 01, 2005 9:56 am

I just want to give you an example of the difference in cost from last year (Olympics). Last year we stayed 1 night at a campsite in Athens and paid 58 euro for 1 night!!!(2 adults, 2 children and a small van). This year, same campsite, people and van: 25 euro.
I hope the decrease in prices will be noticeable for other things as well!!!

hi there. We (myself + partner) have just been in the cyclades for the past few weeks. It is getting more expensive with the euro but still not bad. We were paying between 25-35 euros for a double room per night on the islands and the cost of our evening meal was approx 20-25 euros.

by CAROL MATHER » Thu Aug 04, 2005 2:39 am

:) hi there my name is carol, i think it all depends on where you go some places are more expensive than others when we was in Santorini last year i thought it would be more expensive with Athens being host to the Olympics but i was quite surprised the prices were only a couple of Euro's different from the previous year but we mainly eat out in the local tavernas rarther than the the ones geared up for tourest but hey these gorgous people have to make a living and as long as i am in Santorini i would pay any price. This Island is Heaven on Earth and i cant wait to get back there this month.

Greece here i come

Holidays

Thanks for the restaurant recommendation - I am travelling to Athens on Wednesday, and can't wait!

How can anyone get bored with Greek food? It's wonderful. If nothing else, I can't wait to eat tomatoes that taste of something (in England they tend to be like wet cotton wool).

A bit of sunshine will be a treat, too!!
