Greece : Boat trip from Agios Nikolaos to Santorini : Greek Islands and Greece Forums

We are planning a holiday to Agios Nikolaos and would like to take a boat trip to Santorini. Ideally we would like to stay all day exploring the island and viewing the spectacular sunset before returning to Crete. Has anyone been on such a trip from Agios Nikolaos? Cool

I haven't been from agios nik. but we went to Santorini from Rethymno and it took about 2 hours on the catamaran, or 4 on the ferry. The boat trip (we took the catamaran) made everyone a little seasick, so be prepared with some gravol, but it was more than worth it!
Santorini is beautiful, however to get ot the cities you must book onto a bus to get up the GIANT cliffs, most of these bus tours will take you to several different cities including the capitol (Fira, Firostefani, etc) and drop you off giving you a few hours to explore each place. They aren't that big so you should be able to get in a large amout of sightseeing and stuff.
I also recommen bringing a packed lunch so that you don't have to waste time eating meals which take forever in greece! A picnic on Santorini sounds better than a restaurant anyway!
However as to seeing the sunset (and be sure to check this because I am not 100% sure it's true) the last boat back leaves around 7pm so if you're there in summer when the sunsets around 9 then you'll do better to spend the night there and go home the next day if that's big on the to-do list. There are lots of hotels and people renting on santorini so I don't think it'll be hard to do.
