Santorini honeymoon- where to sat on island

by leanne23 » Mon Jul 07, 2008 9:23 pm

Hi, We are thinking of going to Santorini for our honeymoon (10-14 days) We don't know where would be best to stay/base ourselves. Ideally we wouldn't like to be too far from a beach / resort type little shops taverns like Kamari(?) but had also looked at Oia and Perissa. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. It's 12 mths until we get married but I am so exicted about going back to Greece. (Went island hopping when I was at college and loved it)

Well, for a romantic stay on the island, Oia is a must.
Then Fira is also great and gives the opportunity to get arround very easily.

Perissa and Kamari are on the beach but compared to the cliffs' villages, it is nice but nothing exceptional. It also much more cheaper.

Check http://www.greeka.com/cyclades/santorin ... llages.htm for info and pictures.

It depends on your budget, Santorini is not the cheapest place on earth, and you got to add the fact that the pound is very poor against the euro. We stayed in the Hotel Kastelli in Kamari. It is a lovely place, belonging to the small luxary hotels of the world group. From Kamari you are only ten minutes by car to Thira or Prygos, another 5 minutes more and you are in Imerogilvi, ten minutes futher on and you are in Oia. Some hotels in Imerogilvi and Oia can set you back thousands a week. They are beautiful with there private terraces and infinity pools, and ofcourse the amazing sunset, but whilst staying in Kamari we drove around to these places several times. The Island is only 18km long tip to tip.

So my advice would be to get a luxary hotel in Kamari and visit the little picture post card villiges by car or taxi. Even the bus to Thira only takes 15mins, and costs ?1.40. Spend the saved cash on champayne cocktails at the Albatros Club on Kamari Beach.
