Well, Kefalonia is not the kind of party island. If you go there to party you will be disapointed. Zakynthos is a party island with many many bars and clubs. Kefalonia is very calm and is known for its authenticity.
Zakynthos was turned into a touristy industry and attracts many tourists (organised vacations) form England and as the english people are party animals the island proposed the services that the people wanted.
Then if you plan to travel in June I must tell you that it is a very calm month without many people. Fot me it is the best month as beaches are empty but again, if you are looking to party you will be disapointed.
The most active place of the island must be the capital Argostoli. It is a nice place to stay and many beaches are located in the area.
Personaly I like Kefalonia much as it has great landscapes and a great nature. The island is very big and many excursions can be done.
The best way to visit the island is to rent a car. Definitely. Chech

Ps: I propose you to have a one day excursion to Ithaca Island and take the rented car with you.
