International Airport?

In the center of the Aegean, there is Paros: a beautiful island with fun nightlife and amazing beaches...

International Airport?

by bav1973 » Mon Sep 24, 2007 11:42 pm

Hi everyone, I went to Paros early this summer for a quick break whilst visiting my cousin in Greece and liked it so much that I'd like to return next summer for a proper holiday.

Does anyone know if an international airport is planned for the island at some stage as I flew in from a connecting flight from Athens and took a ferry over to Piraeus on the homeward trip?

I guess I'm just being lazy but a direct flight in would make it easier to visit!

Euxaristo Poli!

An international airport on Paros is on the program but don't know when. It is a great thing but also a bad thing as many many packaged tourists will arrive. Good for the economy of the Cyclades but bad for the quality.

Thanks for the reply Alexis.

I think you're right with what you say there in terms of what might happen after an International airport is built.

The worst case scenario is that some of your towns end up like Faliraki, Kavos or Malia etc which would ruin the atmosphere albeit boosting the economy of the island. Hope things turn out well whatever happens.

Hello Bav,

I just read the local newspaper (Ta Nea) and it sais that the international airport is scheduled between 2007-2013 :? Anyway, there is a new major now here is Paros, and after the elections trying to sort out the plans of the newly elected (re-elected) government. I'll keep you posted about it, but it seems, it's not going to be ready any time soon.... :(

Hi Anna,

Thanks very much for the info, it's much appreciated.

Looks like I'll be using a ferry for sometime to come yet!

Cheers
