WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW IF LESVOS HAS ITS OWN MAKE OF WINE? ALSO COULD ANYBODY RECOMEND A GOOD BUT NOT TOO PRICEY MEDIUM SWEET RED WINE ? Very Happy Wink

Not sure myself, I know that while Lesvos apparently had large vineyards and wines in the past, many were wiped out by disease. I think that most of the wine today (and it's supposed to be excellent) is produced locally on a smaller scale by locals and not for export. If you're visiting, just ask for 'dopio' (local) if you don't want to drink stuff from the mainland or an import from Santorini. Good local wine won't even be branded.

o_xenos musy have right.... I checked on the web for wine and wineries in lesvos without a single result... everything was turning arround Ouzo, of course...

As it is written with the accent on the "o"

dopio for one wine
dopia for wines

Ps: I am not a gramatical expert and hope that waht I wrote means something Wink

That's right. To Alexis' comment I'll only add an English phonetic approximation so you can see how the vowels are pronounced. The 'o's are like the English word 'log' and the 'i' is like a double ee as in the word "Greece".

Hi Jill , I can reccomend a nice sweet red wine ( Greek) MAVRODAPHNE , i think thats the correct spelling ; it's about £4 in Morrison's. Something like Sherry ? The wife and i like it . Regards pigeon Very Happy
