Ammouliani: A tiny island off the coast of the 'third finger' of Halkidiki in northeastern Greece. Population about 500 (depending on the season), there is one town with a few cafes, tavernas, an internet cafe, limited nightlife, etc. This is a choice island for those wanting QUIET, and it's absolutely beautiful. Great beaches, from some tiny ones in town with views to Mount Athos, to the larger beach at Alkies. The ferry ride from the mainland (from Tripiti, you can get there by bus from Thessaloniki - about 2 hours 20 mins) is only 15 minutes and runs every half hour. Also from the island you can get a boat to Ouranopoli and take a boat tour of the holy Mount Athos and the monasteries there.

I was just there and can't wait to go back.

In 2007 is was in Halkidiki. I never expected such a exotic beaches. I felt like having vacation somewhere in the middle of the Indian ocean. Clear turquoise water, very fine soft sand and cocktail. An extra highlight was our cruise to the bays of peninsula where the only inhabitants are monks in their fascinating monastery. Mount Athos with its over 2.000m was gorgeous as well as the Garden of the Mother of God.
