 During a week at Immerovigli is it worth hiring a car to tour the island or is public transport OK or is a taxi best :?:

If you like public transports then public transports in Santorini Island are really fine. The bus makes regular trips Fira-Oia (from imerovigli) and Fira-Akrotiri &Perissa &Kamari.

But I am not sure that the network assure trips to the west coast.

Personally I would rent a car. Independance and security first! And it gives the opportunity to see more things without having a look at you watch all the time ;)

I would definitively avoid the taxi. The bus is regular and taxis cost much.

I agree, and the car will give you the freedom to get to places that aren't easily served by the bus.

car hire

We rented ATVs to see the island and it was a lot of fun. Probably not as fast as a car, but it was easier to pull over to the side whenever we wanted and park in tight areas. We didn't venture out towards Oia with these and opted to take the bus because people advised us that it's a little high, etc.
I believe we paid 20 euro for 24 hours and I was able to travel with a passenger.
Whatever you decide, renting some form of vehicle is worth it because you have the freedom to stop and explore as you please.
Have fun!

ATV

by delfini » Wed Aug 31, 2005 10:20 pm

Hi mikey!

An ATV is an All-Terrain-Vehicle, or 4x4. It was the first time I had ever been on one and it was great! They're very easy to ride, you just have to get used to them (and watch the corners when you're turning - but you'd have to be careful with just about anything you drive.)
Apparently, they are becoming quite popular in Greece and the locals call them "gourounes" which means "pigs"
The only problem we encountered was not knowing where to put our belongings - there is no storage bin on them.
Let us know how your trip goes!

hello, everyone!

i will be in Santorini, Oia, at the end of July.

i want to rent-a-car for all period, but my plane comes very late and my departure is very early in the morning. i don't know the island and the streets, i think is better to take the transfer with the taxi or with the bus.
what advices can you offer me?

also, regarding hiring a car, is there some details that are not known by clients from the first time?

are there in Oia public parking places? or the cars can be parked on the right side of the road?

(sorry for dumb questions, but Crete was full of pleasant or non-pleasant surprises for me)
