Samos info

Need as much info on Samos as possible please ! How big is the island. Have just returned from Skiathos (12 miles x 8 miles) and want to find somewhere similar. Stunning beaches, quiet on the north, busier on the south with water sports etc. and Skiathos Town had just the right mix of brilliant tavernas - pretty harbour side town, lots of bars but not 18-30 ! We also enjoyed hiring a jeep and driving across the island.

What is the best location on the island to stay in ? Prefer quiet place to stay and then drive to town at night. Is the main town of Samos a pretty harbour front type place or large bustly town ? Any further information much appreciated.

Many thanks.

We done the same thing, going from Skiathos to Samos, bit of a shock at first, and a bit off putting. However, this is my fourth time to Samos, but you can't really compare like with like. Skiathos has by far the better beaches, but Samos has something else. For me and I have been around the Island the south west is the better and the best beaches on the island. they tell me Kokkari in the north has water sports etc. Pythogoria are a bunch of sharks and would avoid this with their inflated prices. Samos is roughly 4 times the size of Skiathos. Hiring a vehicle is the best way to see the island. Enjoy.
