Kalymnos: Restaurant Ilios,Myrties

We had lots of first class meals while staying on Kalymnos recently, but one was extra special and no more expensive.

Leaving Myrties close to the Atlantic Hotel towards Massouri try the Ilios Restaurant. A traditional blue and white taverna where the food & service is very good. Run by Zois Strathopoulos in his second year, he tries very hard to please. My wife and I had three meals with Zois, each one different and special, we even walked the 2 kms from the Plaza Hotel each time and back of course.

We were staying almost opposite Ilios (at the Acroyali apartments) and had dinner there. While I don't recommend the spaghetti marinara or the Moussaka, the other dishes served were lovely. They do a great youvetsi, fila and other traditional dishes and their servings are more than generous as is the service - probably the 'keenest to please' service we experienced in Greece. Prices are good and the atmosphere is pleasant.

Just a little update. I had a Christmas card from Lois saying he was moving about 100 metres from his present restaurant to a new location. It will be called Argo and open for the new season in 2006
