Thassos Architecture: Information about the architecture of Thassos Greece, Eastern Aegean

 

 

Thassos island also known as the emerald of the Aegean has several sites with ancient remains of temples, market places, fortifications, and dwellings.

Thassos is known for its traditional architecture of Thassos consists in houses of thick stone walls which are usually whitewashed and have slate roofs.

The enclosed wooden balconies of those houses are authentic examples of the folk architecture as are several architectural and decorative elements borrowed from Epirus and Macedonia.

The houses are surrounded by flowered gardens or courtyards encircled by small walls.

This traditional architecture is blended to modern architecture,
