100 years have gone by since the death of Alexandros Papadiamantis, the most influential Greek writer of the 19th century. This year's Festival of Phillipi-Thassos is a great opportunity to honor his work in a different and unique approach. The festival will host some of the most significant Greek artists, including actors, musicians, singers and composers. The events will take place in many venues, including the Ancient Theatre of Philippi, the Castle of Kavala, the Old Music Hall under the Light House, the Port of Kavala and other unusual venues.

The concert of Stavros Xarhakos will open the festival on July 2nd in the Ancient Theatre of Phillipi. The program will host works of important composers, including Manos Hatzidakis, Mikis Theodorakis and musical compositions of written works of Papadiamantis. The Ancient Theatre will also host three plays by the National Theatre. These are "Skinovates" on July 29th & 30th, "Hercules Furens" of Euripides on August 12th & 13th and "Tale without a name" by the writer Penelope Delta on August 22nd.

At the Castle of Kavala, the theatrical school of the National Theatre will present one of Papadiamantis short stories "The Witches" on July 20th & 21st.

On July 18th you will enjoy a concert with Dimitra Galani & Vasilikos.

Two dancers will proudly present "Dream on the Waves", in a magnificent surrounding under the Light House of Kavala, on August 10th.

Athyr, the musical team of Kavala, will present a play in the castle prisons.

A special ferry will run the route Kavala-Thassos on Jully 31st or August 1st where several Greek actors will read manuscripts about the sea by Alexandros Papadiamantis. Other actors will honor the writer by reading some of his stories in courtyards and taverns of Kavala on August 14th.

The National Theatre of Northern Greece will also participate in the Phillipi Festival celebrating its 50 years. Various plays will be presented such as "Small Dionysia" on July 12th & 22nd, "Othello" by William Shakespeare on July 24th & 25th, "Irene" by Aristophanes on August 5th & 6th, and "Hamlet" by William Shakespeare on July 9th.
