After its large success last year, the AegeanDocs International Documentary Film Festival will take place again from September 20th to 28th, 2014. This festival is organized by the North Aegean Prefecture with the help of the University of the Aegean and financed by the Regional Development Funds of the North Aegean Region.

101 movies from 37 countries will be screened simultaneously in 17 spaces in all islands of Eastern Aegean, including Lesvos, Samos, Chios, Lemnos, Oinousses, Psara and more. The central broadcast will be from the Municipal Theatre of Mytilene, Lesvos island. The entrance is free to all screenings, including the premiere, where the opening film will be Oscar 2014 awarded documentary The Act of Killing, by Joshua Oppenheimer. In fact, before screening, the director will talk through Skype with the audience.

Two words can encapsulate the very essence of this festival: Facing Reality. The movies that will be shown in AegeanDocs this year have faced reality by looking at different problems, situations and adventures of different people. Carefully chosen by the festival's committee, these movies run for the following awards: the Special Award for Young Filmmaker, the Best Social Documentary, the Best History Documentary and the Best Political Documentary. The participants represent the whole world, as they come from the United States, Chile, Peru, Argentina, Europe, but also from the Middle East, Turkey and India.

The program of AegeanDocs is divided into thematic units, such as Greek history, human rights, love and humor. On Sunday 21 September, at 11:00, the renowned, Oscar-winner, German director Thomas Stellmach will present and discuss his new film Virtuos Virtuel, which will be screened right afterwards. Other guests of the festival include acknowledged directors, such as Heikki Huttu-Hiltunen from Finland and Sara Ishaq from Yemen.
