Lesvos Vassilika 01
Vassilika village Lesvos: Vassilika is a traditional mountain village built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a hill offering a splendid view to the surrounding area. Vassilika (meaning "royal" in Greek) was actually a place of exile for the royal families during the Byzantine times, which is how it took its name. Today, the population reaches 560 inhabitants.

The village is located 36km west of Mytilene, on the way from Mytilene to Polichnitos. It was first settled in the 17th century after the Turkish attack. The houses have a simple yet lovely architecture and picturesque narrow streets. The mountainous village has a big plain with running water.

The route towards the village is really magnificent surrounded with tall pine trees, olive groves and other trees. Vassilika distinguishes for the natural beauty and the greenery landscape. Vasilika offers many important monuments like the building that housed the old school and the church dedicated to Virgin Mary.

In Kalloni, a coastal settlement situated near the village, there is a ruined castle from the post-Byzantine times. Vasilika has thermal baths visited by many people throughout the year.
