Sykaminia village Lesvos: Sikaminia is a traditional mountain village built at the north side of Lepetymnos Hill, in a verdurous landscape with fresh ravines offering an idyllic view to the sea. It is located in the north coast of the island, 46km northwest of Mytilene. It has picturesque alleys and a beautiful square in the middle of the village.
Sykaminia is the birth town of the late well-known Greek novelist and academic, Stratis Mirivilis. His home is open to the public. The village is surrounded by olive groves creating magnificent landscapes which reach the blue waters of the Aegean Sea.
Within a short distance of 3km is Skala Sikaminia, a lovely port village with pebbled beach, ideal for fishing. The area hosts a small church built upon a hill by the sea, the church of Panagia Gorgona. The beach is not completely developed in terms of tourist facilities yet it offers umbrellas and sundecks for a perfect day on the beach. |
