Paleochori village Lesvos: This is a small mountainous village, one of the oldest in Lesvos. It is built amphitheatrically at the slopes of a hill, offering magnificent views to the verdurous mountains. It is located in the southern part of the island, 51 km southwest of Mytilene.
Paleochori has only a few residents who deal mostly with agriculture. The houses are very close to each other built like castle walls for the protection from attacks. They are all built with traditional style and colorful walls. The village is surrounded by vast greenery and tall pine trees that create a lovely and warm environment. The village offers interesting monuments like the church of Evagelistria and the Ecclesiastical Museum, which includes paintings, icons and other ecclesiastical relics.
There are taverns and cafes found in the area of Paleochori and the nearby village of Plomari. Within a distance of 3km there is Melinda, a long beach with golden sand and rocky landscape. |
