Lesvos
is particularly famous, throughout Greece, for its ouzo,
which is considered to be the best one of Greece.
This national alcohol is a combination of pressed grapes,
herbs and berries.
The alcohol is made from the skin of the grapes and of
other products, and then it is brought together with herbs,
anise, coriander, cloves, hazelnut, cinnamon, and more.
The mixture is boiled, cooled and stored for many months
before being diluted to 40 percent alcohol.
Lesvos is also famous for its olive oil of high quality
as well as for its salted sardines fished from the Gulf
of Kaloni.
