Lesvos has some of the most wonderful landscapes. The combination of mountains and plains with pristine beaches on a rugged coastline looked extremely picturesque. The mountains were filled with numerous olive trees and the locals told us that there were almost 11 million of them on
Lesvos. We stayed at a charming place in Vatera. Our apartment was close to the beach and our room was sea facing. The streets below were always noisy with tourist crowds. Beside the hotel, there were plenty of cafeterias and restaurants. People would usually hang out in these areas all day long.
We rented a car for our excursion trip. We toured many museums and beautiful villages. Each village was popular for its unique characteristics. In Agiassos we saw some of the finest potteries and wood carvings. Kaloni was a fishing village and filled with various Byzantine architectural marvels. Plomari was famous for its ouzo and olive oil. We tried some ouzo in one of the village restaurants. It tasted fantastic! I also bought olive oil to take back home.
