Here are some of the most important
religious and non religious feasts and festivals of
Lesvos.
The Feast of Agios Dimitrios is celebrated on the 26th
of October at the village of Moria and includes horse
races and great celebrations. On the night before the
celebration, the inhabitants of the village are killing
a bull and boil it all night long, singing and dancing.
The Feast of Agios Nikolaos is celebrated on the 6th
of December, together with the anniversary of the liberation
of Petra.

During the Carnival,
on Shrove Monday, at the village of Mandamados, the islanders
are celebrating the carnival with a great feast and the
revival of the traditional fishing way.
Horse races are organised to the end of July at the town
of Plomari.
Horses of extreme beauty and velocity are participating
with riders wearing the traditional costume. After the
racing dances and a big banquet are available.
The Feast of the Saviour is celebrated throughout Lesvos
on the 6th of August. |

At the village of Agiassos, various cultural events and
races are organised for this celebration.
On the same day, at the village of Kaloni, other cultural
events are organised such as art exhibitions and theatrical
performances.
In July and August, the Municipality of Mithymna (or Molivos)
is organising various cultural events which take place
within the beautiful castle of the village.
Throughout summer, numerous cultural events are taking
place at the capital of the island, Mytilene. |
