Location: Sigri

The Ottoman Castle of Sigri in Lesvos, Eastern Aegean: The Castle of Sigri, on the northwestern side of Lesvos, is found very close to the fishing port of the village. It is actually a fort that was built in 1757 by the Ottomans to protect this trade region from the main threat of that times, the pirates. This square fort has four towers, one of every corner, giving a great view to the sea and the region.

The central gate of this castle has an arch, typical view of Arabic architecture, constructed with red and white stones. In the interior of the fortress, there were several cells for the accommodation of the permanent guards. Today, the castle is preserved in good condition.
