I went to Lesvos last month on a tour organized by our church for pilgrimage to the monastery of Saint Rapheal. This is one of the most important monasteries on Lesvos and many people believe that it is working miracles. In our group, there were many who wanted to pray for health and sickness recovery and really believed that the saint would help them. The monastery was constructed in 1960 on the site where the dead body of the saint was found, close to the village Thermi. Saint Rapheal was a Christian martyr who was sentenced to death by the Turks because he denied to change his faith. The monks of the monastery showed us his grave and his skull, which is kept intact till today. Outside the monastery, there are some stands to sell small pictures and things for good luck. This I didn't like. I don't like selling things outside monasteries and churches. It is like waiting to finish your pilgrimage and then to buy something.
