It was built in 1700, restored in 1879, and is dedicated to the saint patron of Lesvos.

This Byzantine monastery stands 9 kilometres south-west of the village of Andissa, north-west of Mytilene.
The monastery was founded before 800 AD in honour of Saint John the Theologian.It houses various ecclesiastical items such as stoles embroidered
with gold, altar-clothes, gospel’s covers, valuable crosses and a great number of important documents.
