As announced the Dean of the Aegean University, everything is ready so that the University Department of Lemnos can start its operation in the academic year 2009-10. The Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences has been a long demand of the residents of Lemnos, who know that this School will bring life and economic prosperity to this small island, especially in the winter when the tourist season is off. Moreover, it is a good chance to promote the rich culture of the island. 

Last year, the municipality of Myrina and the sub-prefecture of Lemnos gave to the Aegean University a piece of land to construct a University building that will cover the needs of the Department. For start, the lectures will take place variopus buildings around the island, until the proper infrastructure is found. Some other buildings are also being renovated to be used as offices for the teachers and the secretariat of the Department. A students club and a cultural center will also be created.
