Lemnos Folklore Museum: The Folklore Museum of Lemnos Greece, Eastern Aegean

The Folklore Museum of Lemnos Greece, Eastern Aegean: Located in the village of Portianou, in the Municipality of Nea Koutali, this museum was established in August 1995 by the Association of Portianou Residents in Athens, Piraeus and Outskirts.

The building which houses the museum is built in the traditional architectural style of Lemnos. It has eight rooms that display a range of popular artifacts. There are exhibits of everyday life, such as traditional costumes of the 19th century, spinning wheels, reels, textiles and tools used in knitting and weaving. Crockery, tubs, troughs, urns, steelyards, spring balances and pitchers are also on display. One of the rooms is designed to resemble a full-equipped old kitchen, replete with cooking utensils.

The second floor reveals a living room with an elegant wooden chest and a bed with an exquisite, hand-stitched, wedding dress with lace flounces gracefully spread across it. The museum also sports a sheltered outbuilding, where almost every agricultural tool is laid out, from tools for digging, scattering and fanning, to tools used in winnowing and harvesting. A threshing machine also claims space here.
