Lemnos Festivals, Greece: Information about the Festivals of Lemnos, Eastern Aegean

The island of Lemnos celebrates various feasts throughout the year. Here are some of the local festivals or religious feasts.

On the 22nd of June, the Feast of Agios Ioannis is celebrated at the village of Kaspakas.

Locals are lighting fires in order to burn the wreaths of the first day of May. Those wreaths are called “kakanoures”.

A big feast is organised after the burning with dancing, singing, drinking and eating all night long.

During summertime, the Council of the village of Kondopouli organises performances of traditional dances with dancers dressed in local costumes.

In the same village, sports events are organised during the month of August. All summer, theatrical performances are organised by a local group at the town of Myrina, capital of Lemnos.

This theatrical group participates to the theatrical Meeting of the Aegean.

The Feast of the Saviour is celebrated on the 6th of August at the village of Nea Koutali and is one of the island’s biggest religious feasts where all the inhabitants of the island participate.

On the 15th of August, the Feast of the Virgin Mary is celebrated in the entire island and particularly at the village of Panagia where the feast last for two days.
