The island of Lemnos celebrates various
feasts throughout the year.
Here are some of the local festivals or religious
feasts.
On the 22nd of June, the Feast of Agios Ioannis is
celebrated at the village of Kaspakas.
Locals are lighting fires in order to burn the wreaths
of the first day of May.
Those wreaths are called “kakanoures”.
A big feast
is organised after the burning with dancing, singing,
drinking and eating all night long.

During summertime, the Council of the village of Kondopouli
organises performances of traditional dances with dancers
dressed in local costumes.
In the same village, sports events are organised during
the month of August.
All summer, theatrical performances are organised by a
local group at the town of Myrina, capital of Lemnos.
This theatrical group participates to the theatrical Meeting
of the Aegean. |

The Feast of the Saviour is celebrated on the 6th of August at the village of Nea Koutali and is one of the island’s
biggest religious feasts where all the inhabitants of
the island participate.
On the 15th of August, the Feast of the Virgin Mary is
celebrated in the entire island and particularly at the
village of Panagia where the feast last for two days. |
