Church Of Agios Nikolaos
The church of Agios Nikolaos is located on a hill and overlooks the whole town and the port. It is impressive in size and has strange architecture.
>> Museums
The Archaeological Museum is housed in a beautiful Neoclassic building in Myrina. During the Turkish occupation, the building was used as the Turkish headquarters. Today, visitors can see various collections, such as findings from the excavations in ancient Ifestia, Kavirio and other sites, which date from the Prehistoric till the Hellenistic period.
The Ecclesiastical Museum is housed in a building in Myrina, near the Holy Cathedral of Lemnos. It has some very impressive Byzantine and post-Byzantine art pieces.
>> Other
This little island is lying one hour and a half from Lemnos. Agios Efstratios (or Ai Stratis, as it is called by the locals) was a place of exile for the communists from 1928 till 1963. A strong earthquake in 1968 destroyed the traditional architecture of the island.
>> Sightseeing
The Byzantine Castle of Myrina stands on a hill overlooking the town. It was built by Emperor Andronicus Komninos and it can be accessed only on foot. Some deer live close to the Castle and the locals take good care of them.
