On the island of Ikaria, Eastern Aegean, and for the 3rd year by now the Icarus Festival for Dialogue between Cultures is taking place from 23 June till 22 July 2008.
The festival identifies with the myth of Icarus who soars over the frontiers and flies for freedom, daring to be free at any price. In this festival are invited artists who incorporate in their music elements from other cultures, intending to extend themselves, open up and love something beyond their own world.
This music cultural dialogue requires an ability of appreciation and knowledge of one's culture, as well as an activity of an intercultural exchange. Taking part to Icarus Festival are artists with original work and the music played will be a surprising combination. According to the program, there will be Greek and Turkish songs from Asia Minor and Constantinople, Gypsy music from Europe with Greek lyrics, tangos, French-Algerian music and even more.
