Ikaria Festivals, Greece: Information about the Festivals of Ikaria, Eastern Aegean

 

 

Here are some of the most important feasts and celebrations on the island of Ikaria.

On the 14th to the 17th of July, a three day feast is organised at Evdilos to celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of Ikaria from the Turks. Local food and wine is served and dancing and singing are continuous during the three days.

On the 17th of July, Agios Kirikos is also organising a great feast for the liberation of the island from the Turks Ottoman.

 
On the 6th of August, at the village of Xristos Rahon, is held the biggest feast of the island where all the inhabitants of Ikaria participate.

Free roast and stew lamb is served, accompanied by local wine and traditional music. The feast lasts until the following day.

The feast of the Virgin Mary is celebrated on the 15th of August, at the villages of Gialiskari and Xristos Rahon.

 
Icarus Festival for Dialogue between Cultures

Between July and August.
The International Music Festival came to life in the summer of 2006 on the Greek island of Ikaria.

This Festival is an annual venue organized by all 3 municipalities of Ikaria, Evdelos, Agios Kyrikos, Raches, under the artistic direction of Klaudia Delmer, an artist herself. The Festival purpose is to host performances by artists or groups whose music

 


On the 20th of July, the inhabitants of Ikaria are celebrating the feast of Profitis Ilias at Agios Kirikos. Popular instruments and violin are played, accompanying the free local wine and the stew and roasted lamb.

On the 26th of July, the feast of Agia Paraskevi is celebrated at the village of Karkinagri.
 
Icarus Chess Festival  

Every year, an International Chess Festival takes place in Agios Kyrikos and many chess players from around the world participate. This Chess Festival gives a certain prestige to the island and attracts lots of visitors.
