Chios Mastic: Chios is a unique island and produces one of the most unique products in the world, Mastic. Mastic is an aromatic exudate extracted from the mastic tree; used in liquers, pastry, and cooking. The
exporting of mastic was a fruitful business and the villagers became wealthy due to the rarity of this tree. The superb houses and mansions that they built are found even today. These villages came to be known as “Mastihochoria” or “Mastic Villages.”
