Chios: Merikounda Chios

Merikounda Beach Chios: One of the most isolated areas of the island is Merikounta beach located 40km west of Chios Town. It is a beautiful beach covered with thick sand and pebbles that reach the edge of the shore. Unfortunately, it is not protected from the strong north winds, therefore it would be wise not to visit the bay when the wind is strong.

Merikounda beach is completely unspoilt and surrounded by steep cliffs and few greenery. Due to its long distance from the town and the windy atmosphere, it rarely gets frequented therefore it becomes an ideal place to enjoy the peaceful environment. The beach is easily accessed through a track road from the historic village of Mesta.
