Tilos Architecture: Information about the architecture of Tilos Greece, Dodecanese

Tilos is known as the island of seven medieval castles, a Byzantine monastery, two hundred churches and a village that has been declared as a cultural monument.

The houses in the capital of Megalo Chorio are built amphitheatrically on the slopes of a mountain. These are small, white houses with beautiful gardens. A Venetian Castle, built in the 15th century, stands on top of the mountain.

The barren mountains around Livadia village, the main port of the island, stand in contrast to the lovely white houses of the village. A building of different architecture is the police station of the island, which was built by the Italians before the Second World War.

The village of Mikro Horio also has an interesting architecture, although it is not inhabited today. The village was gradually abandoned in the 1960s, when the residents started to move in Livadia.
